Peak District Villages
One of the main attractions of the Peak District is the sheer amount of beautiful picturesque villages tucked away inside the National Park. Whether you are planning to move to the area or are just visiting for a week these villages often represent a much cleaner, healthier more enjoyable and sedate way of life in comparison to the bustling cities many of us reside in. Many of the Peak District villages were originally small Roman settlements and forts, notable examples of this are Buxton, Chesterfield, Glossop and Brough-on-Noe. The Peak District villages have survived for many hundreds of years and saw tourism become their main source of income in the late 19th/early 20th century during the industrial revolution when the new train lines that were being laid up and down the country allowed people to escape the city and visit the Peak District countryside for weekend breaks and longer holidays. The Peak District has gone from strength to strength and the villages contained within have a long and interesting history.
